8/4/10. House prices up in march: Halifax. The latest increase pushed the annual rate of house price inflation up to 5.2% from 4.5% in February.

30/12/09. BBC reports House prices in England and Wales up for sixth month.

5/10/09. The average house price rose by 1.6% according to the Halifax, reports the BBC. This is just a few days after Nationwide reported a 0.9% increase:

27/8/09. The Nationwide has reported that house prices have increased by 1.6% between July and August.

20/7/09. The Times is reporting that property prices in England and Wales rose by nearly £1,500 this month. Miles Shipside, commercial director of Rightmove, said: "There were some fire-sale prices last winter, when a few brave buyers correctly called the bottom of the market. In most parts of the country, prices have consistently improved during spring." House prices plummeted by more than 20 per cent in the 18 months after the market peaked in autumn 2007, but many of the leading house-price surveys have registered rises in recent months. The latest promising figures come only a week after new figures showed that the number of estate agents expecting house prices to increase in the coming months outnumbered those predicting further falls for the first time since May 2007.

9/6/09. Mortgage lending increased in April according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders. The BBC report that in April, the average amount borrowed by first-time buyers for a home loan rose slightly to £96,000.

4/6/09. The BBC are reporting house prices rose 2.6% in May on April, according to the Halifax. Of those people buying a home with a mortgage from Halifax in March 40% were first-time buyers.

29/5/09. The BBC are reporting house prices rose 1.2% in May on April, offering evidence of activity in the UK housing market, according to figures from the Nationwide building society. Andrew Montlake, director of mortgage broker Coreco, said: "...anyone seriously considering getting onto the property ladder needs to commit in the next six to nine months or they could well miss the bottom.".
